Front Caster Rods for Toyota Supra (A90) / BMW Z4 (G29)
- Part Number:
- SPL TR G29
The SPL adjustable caster rods (TR G29) for the Toyota Supra (A90 / A91) and BMW Z4 (G29) provide adjustable caster and anti-dive to improve mechanical cornering grip and stability under aggressive braking. The billet aluminum arms use PTFE-lined, F1-fit FK USA spherical bushings to eliminate bushing deflection and bind, which are the primary causes of vague steering and braking feedback. The adjustable caster arms, aka tension rods, allow for a deeper customization of the suspension geometry to better suit your driving preferences and adapt to changes in tracks, aero loading, tires, and more.
Technical
Caster Adjustment
Set the Ideal Caster for Better Lateral Grip
Caster angle is critical to a MacPherson strut front suspension because it increases the amount of camber that is gained as steering angle is increased. It also improves the centering torque on the steering wheel for straight line stability and additional tire feedback. The result is better grip mid-corner and an improvement to peak braking by slightly reducing the need for static camber.
Adjustable caster rods also allow you to adjust the wheel location (side view) to prevent tire rub with the front bumper, or fender in some cases as well as properly set the desired track width and camber angle while maintaining optimal kinematics, particularly bumpsteer.
Track Width Adjustment
Get More from the Inner Tire
Extending the front track width promotes a more neutral handling behavior and reduces the overall amount of weight that shifts off the inner tire and onto the heavily loaded outer. This is a major factor in improving the peak lateral grip on the short wheelbase Supra / Z4, and is especially helpful for any tire size limited class. The SPL front lower control arm (FLCA G29), SPL caster / tension rod (TR G29), and an adjustable camber plate allows you to properly maximize front track width, set your ideal camber angle, and optimize the front suspension setup.
Anti-Geometry Adjustment
Fine Tune the Chassis Response Under Hard Braking
In the front, the provided spacers allow for fine tuning of the anti-dive geometry. The more anti-dive (expressed as a %) a car has less the front suspension will compress under braking. This is achieved by the arm geometry and tire grip working together to bear some of the load shift and keeping it from compressing the spring / damper. This geometry becomes more important as cars increase braking force with grippy tires and aero, especially on bumpy tracks and softer front spring rates. Changing anti-dive geometry can be helpful when setting up the front suspension to maintain acceptable front splitter heights or sufficient front suspension travel.

Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)
The caster arm bushings are an active part of NVH control strategy for the front suspension. The trade-off for performance is additional NVH over rough roads, particularly hard bumps, a small increase in road / tire noise, and a greater likelihood of tramlining for some setups. However, the ride quality on smoother roads, even with some rolling bumps, will be improved over stock due to the elimination of bushing bind. Going to a high-quality coilover with suitable spring rates will further enhance this improvement and mitigate some of the NVH impact.
